Questions that decide it
- How sure are you about a long-term presence? If you are certain, an owned setup avoids a later transition. If you want evidence first, a staged route reduces regret.
- Who will carry local execution? A programme with a strong internal India leader can move differently from one starting with none.
- How much control must you have early? Regulated data, IP sensitivity or brand requirements can push towards ownership sooner.
- What is your tolerance for transition work? Models that transfer later trade upfront speed for a defined handover phase.
